Assisi Diary

The cross outside San Pietro at sunset

Inside San Stefano

The bells of San Stefano - the legend is that they starting ringing of their own accord when Francis died

The fine weather has given way to rain, perhaps tomorrow will be better.

Today was the fire festival - a torch was carried up from the Basilica of St Francis to the Rocca Maggiore - the remains of the castle on the hill above Assisi and a great bonfire lit. People sang folk songs - lots of "la la la" choruses. Then I went back to the friary before the rain set in.

Tomorrow (Saturday Dec 8th) is the feast of the Immaculate Conception - a public holiday here.
